Sarah Fichtner MA, LAC, NCC, ESMHL
Sarah is a Licensed Associate Counselor and National Certified Counselor, who holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental health Counseling from Kean University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Human Development from the University of Maryland. She is also certified as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) and a Disaster Response Crisis Counselor (DRCC).
Sarah practices from a holistic, multifaceted framework viewing every client as a unique individual with the ability to sustain wellness. She utilizes therapy approaches such as CBT, DBT, equine-assisted psychotherapy, solution-focused, and mindfulness. Sarah has clinical knowledge in a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, social anxiety, eating disorders/ body image, stress management, addiction, self-esteem, and family disorder.
As a former Division 1 student-athlete and captain of the women’s soccer team, Sarah was exposed to the prevalence of substance abuse and mental health issues among the athlete population and knew she wanted to pursue a career in counseling. She completed clinical internships at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Riverview Medical Center working with children and adolescents, as well as Southern Ocean Medical Center as a crisis clinician in the Emergency Room. Sarah also works as a therapist for a private practice.
