Veterans Drug Rehab in New Jersey

Addiction can infect anyone, no matter their background. However, addiction is more than just a threat for many veterans – it’s a reality. Too often, veterans are underserviced, overlooked, and left to manage their own challenges with little to no support.

That’s why we at Relevance Recovery aim to provide the best veterans drug rehab in New Jersey; we believe that the key to battling addiction is to treat its root causes, including those unique to veterans.

Why Veterans Can Be Vulnerable to Addiction

Substance use is a common and straightforward coping mechanism for numbing emotional pain for many veterans. Engaging in substance use offers an escape from the stresses and trauma of daily life, which can be especially tempting to those who have served in the military.

Because many veterans face challenges that are unique to their circumstances, the best addiction treatment must consider their needs. Working to address the underlying causes of substance use behaviors is the best way to overcome them once and for all.

At Relevance Recovery, we strive to understand the realities veterans face so that we can provide care that meets them where they’re at.

Unaddressed mental health concerns

Time spent in the military can be a risk factor for many mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety. Mental illness is one of the most common potential causes of addiction and may disproportionately affect veterans.

For many people, it’s impossible to treat addiction without addressing mental health. Both illnesses can fuel each other, worsening symptoms and creating a vicious cycle. In fact, about 1 in 4 people with a serious mental health disorder live with a substance use disorder (SUD).

Traumatic experiences and PTSD

As many as 20-29% of veterans who have served in post-Vietnam eras experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Those who don’t meet diagnostic criteria may still live with trauma that affects them regularly.

While PTSD creates challenges of its own, it can often be a predictor of substance use challenges. Around 40% of people with PTSD also experience addiction, meaning a significant portion of veterans may be predisposed to substance use disorders.

Challenges that uniquely affect veterans

The realities of post-service life can be daunting. Challenges like job instability, financial limitations, and physical injury can make it difficult for veterans to receive the care they need. Likewise, treatment options not tailored to the needs of veterans can fail to adequately address these concerns.

Our Options for Veterans Drug Rehab in New Jersey

We offer several levels of care for our New Jersey veterans drug rehab program, each of which is tailored to meet each client’s individual needs. Our team works closely with each person we treat to develop an appropriate plan and goals that make sense. From there, clients can enter a program best suited to them.

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)

Our PHP is ideal for those that need more structure and dedicated support to manage their addiction and mental illness symptoms. Clients can participate in a level of care relatively close to the intensity of inpatient treatment but remain free to return home each night. Throughout PHP treatment, we utilize the same therapeutic methods found at higher levels of care during sessions lasting from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

A step below a partial hospitalization program is our IOP, which offers more comprehensive support than traditional outpatient treatment. It typically begins after a client completes a detox treatment or acts as a transitional step between inpatient and outpatient care.

Our IOP is best for those who need more guidance than typical outpatient treatment provides but still require the ability to stay connected to their daily lives. Clients participate in sessions that are generally more frequent than those of our traditional outpatient program, offering a more regular chance to receive support.

At Relevance Recovery, our intensive outpatient veterans drug rehab in New Jersey can be done for either 3 or 5 days a week with sessions lasting 3 hours each. Overall, you can expect around 9 to 15 hours of treatment per week.

Traditional outpatient program

Outpatient treatment asks clients to visit therapy or other treatment sessions for a few hours each week. It requires fewer cumulative hours than our intensive outpatient program but still offers access to the same therapeutic benefits.

In our outpatient program, we take things a step further than drug and alcohol education. We are also equipped to treat mental health concerns, help clients develop valuable new skills, engage in holistic therapies, and more.
